
'Dougal's Dilemmas'
The relationship between the different species and with the children quickly became the inspiration for several children 's books and the latest, 'Dougal's Dilemmas' contains 6 short stories based on true events around Dougal Dog at Hart Farm:
Story 1 What will I be when I grow up? describes Dougal's uncertainty about what animal he is, as his curly coat looks a bit like the coat of many other animals
Story 2 Dibbles, the adopted duckling is about an Indian runner duck hatched by a call duck and the sort of challenges that take place on the lake as he grows up
Story 3 There is a Christmas story in which Dougal wonders what Christmas is really about and traces the ancestors of many Hart animals to those who played a part in the tradition al Christmas story
Story 4 Bertie the Brave with the crooked smile tells the story of an alpaca's illness and the help he gets, not just from the vet but from Dougal and the other animals
Story 5 Snoozie the sheep that wouldn't speak describes her reluctance to speak until the arrival of her son, Shakespeare, when she overcomes her fears
Story 6 Colour does not matter was inspired by the growing concern for racist behaviours. The story is a con versation between Dougal and Dulcie Dog where they realize that the colour on the outside of animals and humans has no bearing on who they are on the inside
